Hitokuchi · Photo calorie log
Hitokuchi Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 4, 2026
In short
- No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs.
- What you save in the app is stored only on your phone, with no cloud sync. We can't see it.
- Only when you tap an AI feature (after you agree once) is that content sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude, and the result comes back to your phone. Our server doesn't store it, and Anthropic doesn't train models on it.
- To count free uses and daily usage, our server keeps only a code derived from your App Store record that can't be traced back to you, plus the counts. Never your content.
- Your first 10 AI uses are free; after that, a one-time in-app purchase unlocks unlimited AI. No subscription.
Who we are and what we don't do
Hitokuchi is made by Nanologics. You don't need an account to use Hitokuchi. The app has no ads, analytics, crash-reporting tools or third-party SDKs, and it doesn't track you across other apps or websites. We don't sell, rent or share your personal information. Hitokuchi has AI features that use our server; the sections below explain exactly what is sent, who processes it and what is kept.
Where your data is stored
Hitokuchi stores your food log (food names, portions, calories, protein, carbs, fat, meal and time), your weekly summaries, your daily target, and the sex, age, height and weight you enter if you use the target calculator. This data lives only on your iPhone. There's no iCloud sync, so we can't see it. Meal and label photos are used only for that one estimate; Hitokuchi doesn't keep them or save them to your library. Data on your iPhone is included in your own device backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup), which are handled by Apple.
AI features: what is sent, and when
Hitokuchi sends content only in these cases:
• Photo estimate: the meal photo you take or pick from your library, plus the note you add (if any).
• Nutrition label: the label photo you take or pick.
• Speak or type, Add an item, or renaming a food to re-estimate it: the text describing the food. When you speak, your voice is turned into text on the phone and only the text is sent.
• Weekly summary: only when you ask for one, each day's calorie and macro totals for the week, how many items you logged each day, and your daily calorie target.
Photos are resized on your phone before they're sent, with location and other camera details removed. Your food log itself and your sex, age, height and weight are never sent. You see the AI's estimate first, and nothing is logged until you save it.
Before you use an AI feature for the first time, Hitokuchi shows what it will send and asks for your consent; if you don't agree, nothing is sent. Each time you use one, the content travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our server, which runs on Google Cloud Run in Google's Taiwan region (asia-east1). The server passes it to Anthropic's Claude API and sends the result back to your phone. Each request also carries the app's interface language and the App Store proof described below. Anthropic may process the content outside your country, for example in the United States.
What our server keeps
Our server uses your content only to answer that request and then discards it; it doesn't store your photos or text or write them to its logs. To keep the service working, it keeps only the following:
• A usage code. Each AI request includes the App Store's proof that your Apple Account got the app (an Apple-signed AppTransaction). After checking it, the server turns its transaction ID into a salted hash: a pseudonymous code that can't be traced back to your Apple Account or to you. Only two records are kept under that code: your usage for the day, used for the daily limit and deleted automatically after 2 days; and the number of free AI uses you've had, kept until one year after your last free use and then deleted automatically.
• Purchase proof. Once you've bought the unlock, the app also sends the Apple-signed transaction for that purchase so the server can confirm it. The server checks it and doesn't store it.
• Operational logs without content: which app and feature was used, token counts, cost, the result status and how long it took. We use them to keep costs in check and fix problems.
• Connection logs. As with any website, Google Cloud's request logs record the IP address and user agent (device and system version) of each connection. Google Cloud keeps these logs, and the operational logs above, for 30 days by default.
None of this is linked to your identity, used to track you, or sold to anyone.
How Anthropic (Claude) handles it
Anthropic, the company behind Claude, processes what we send under its commercial terms: it doesn't use it to train its models, and it keeps it only for a limited time to detect abuse and keep the service safe, then deletes it. For details, see Anthropic's privacy policy at https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy and its Privacy Center at https://privacy.anthropic.com.
Turning AI off
In Settings, turn off Use AI estimates to withdraw your consent. Hitokuchi then sends nothing, and Favorites, Same as yesterday, manual entry and portion adjustments keep working. If you turn it back on, Hitokuchi asks for your consent again first.
Permissions
Hitokuchi only asks for access when a feature needs it. Saying no won't affect anything else, and you can change your mind any time in the iPhone Settings app.
- Camera
- Used to photograph a meal or a nutrition label. The photo is used only for that estimate; it isn't saved to your library or kept by Hitokuchi. If you decline, you can still pick a photo from your library, speak, or add food by hand.
- Microphone
- Used only when you log a meal by speaking. Your voice is turned into text on this phone; nothing is recorded to a file or uploaded.
- Speech Recognition
- Uses iOS on-device speech recognition to turn what you say into text on this iPhone. Only the resulting text is sent to the AI when you ask for an estimate.
Other details
All values are estimates
Calories and macros are estimated by the AI from a photo or text, or calculated from a package label, and can differ from reality. Use them as a guide. Hitokuchi is a food log: it doesn't give medical or nutritional treatment advice and isn't for diagnosing, treating or preventing any condition. If you have an eating disorder, diabetes or another condition that needs a managed diet, or you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with a doctor or dietitian about the right goals for you.
Apple Health and other permissions
Hitokuchi doesn't use HealthKit; it neither reads nor writes Health app data. To pick a photo it uses the iOS photo picker, so it only gets the photo you choose and doesn't need access to your library. Hitokuchi doesn't ask for access to notifications, location or contacts.
Siri and Shortcuts
You can ask Siri to log a meal or take a photo with Hitokuchi, or ask how much you've eaten today. The first two open Hitokuchi, and a meal you describe is shown to you before it's logged. Asking about today needs your iPhone to be unlocked. What you say to Siri is handled by Apple under its privacy policy.
Purchases, free uses and information from Apple
Hitokuchi is free to download. Each Apple Account gets 10 free AI uses; after that, a one-time in-app purchase (non-consumable) unlocks unlimited AI, with no subscription. Features that don't use AI are always free. Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple; we never receive your payment details or Apple Account information. Apple gives developers anonymous, aggregated statistics (such as download counts), and if you've turned on “Share with App Developers” on your device, Apple may also share crash logs that don't identify you. Apple handles this information under its own privacy policy.
Deleting your data
You can edit or delete any entry in the app, and Settings has Delete all entries, which removes your food log and weekly summaries. Deleting Hitokuchi deletes all of its data from your phone. Copies in your device backups are managed by Apple's backup features.
The usage code and counts on our server are deleted automatically on the schedule above. Because the code can't be traced back to you, we can't look up your records by name or email; if you have questions, email support@edgelingo.com. Deleting the app doesn't reset your free AI uses: that count belongs to your Apple Account, not to the phone.
Children's privacy
Hitokuchi is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you have any concerns, please email us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. If a change affects how your data is handled, we'll also mention it in the app's release notes.
