Frequently asked questions

How many free AI estimates do I get, and what counts?

Each Apple Account gets 10 free AI estimates. A meal photo or description, Add an item, Add a note and reading a nutrition label each count once, but only when food or label values are actually found. A photo that isn't food or a label that can't be read doesn't count. The weekly summary and re-estimating a renamed food never count and work before and after you unlock. After that, a one-time purchase in Settings → Hitokuchi full version removes the limit, with no subscription. Favorites, Same as yesterday, manual entry, portion adjustments and the charts are always free.

How do I restore my purchase on a new phone or after reinstalling?

Sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought it with, then go to Settings → Hitokuchi full version and tap Restore Purchase. Your used free estimates also belong to your Apple Account, so reinstalling doesn't reset them.

Can I share the unlock with my family?

Not at the moment. The unlock isn't available through Family Sharing, so each Apple Account buys its own. Everyone gets the free download and 10 free AI estimates on their own Apple Account.

Is my food log uploaded, or written to the Health app?

Neither. Your log stays on your phone, with no account and no cloud sync, and Hitokuchi doesn't use HealthKit. Only when you ask for an estimate is that photo or text sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude, and our server doesn't keep it. When you switch phones, restore from an iCloud or computer backup or use Quick Start, and your data comes along.

How accurate are the calorie estimates?

They're estimates and can be off. Oil, sauces and portion size are hard to see in a photo, so errors are bigger there. Writing the amount clearly, adding a note, or photographing the nutrition label gets you closer. You can drag the portion slider or rename a food to re-estimate it. The numbers are a guide, not medical or nutrition advice; if you have special dietary needs, follow your doctor's or dietitian's advice.

Does it work offline?

Favorites, Same as yesterday, manual entry, portion adjustments, the Today screen and charts work without a connection. Photo estimates, nutrition labels, spoken or typed estimates and the weekly summary need the internet to use the AI.

Which languages are supported?

The app is available in English, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish, and the AI's estimates come back in your app language. You can photograph food from any cuisine, from plates and bowls to takeout and drinks.

How do I report a wrong or inappropriate AI result?

In Settings, tap Report a wrong or inappropriate AI result, or email support@edgelingo.com directly. Tell us which meal it was, what the AI gave you and what was wrong; a screenshot helps us find the cause faster.
